Reflections from Malaga: Strengthening Climate Resilience Together

20 October 2025

It was a pleasure for the Region of Western Greece, together with the University of Patras, to join the Pathways2Resilience Sensemaking Event in beautiful Malaga, Spain in a two-day gathering that brought together all P2R Cohort 1 Regions for hands-on collaboration and shared learning.

Throughout the sessions, we worked closely on the final steps toward completing our Climate Resilience Action Plan and Investment Plan, engaging in meaningful dialogue around adaptation priorities, costing measures, and pathways to implementation.

💬 The event featured dynamic sensemaking sessions and peer learning exchanges on Day 1, followed by world café–style discussions on Day 2 focused on climate resilience strategies, investment planning, and capacity building. The shared goal was clear: to move from planning to action, identifying tangible next steps toward stronger, more resilient regions.

The Path4PDE and more specifically the Region of Western Greece was represented by
Dr. Stefanos Papazisimou, Geologist (Ph.D), Directorate of Environment, Climate Resilience and Spatial Planning, Head of the Department of Climate Resilience, Region of Western Greece,
along with Ms. Plega, MSc Geologist in the same Directorate. The University of Patras was represented by Dr. Marina Kouta, Project Manager & Researcher.

This participation helped advance discussions on adaptation pathways, investment strategies, and capacity-building approaches which are key elements for strengthening climate resilience across Europe.

👏 A thank you to the Pathways2Resilience project for coordinating and hosting such an inspiring and well-organised event.

Together, we are transforming collaboration into climate action🌿
