
On Thursday, May 22, 2025, a successful workshop was held, co-organized by the Region of Western Greece, the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Patras, and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of the Peloponnese, as part of the Path4PDE project.
The meeting took place in the Conference Room of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Patras and marked the beginning of a meaningful co-creation process toward a shared vision for a more resilient Region of Western Greece.
The main goal of the event was to identify and record the needs of the involved stakeholders regarding the management of climate risks and the strengthening of the Region’s resilience through transformative pathways.
The program of the meeting included:
· Greetings from Mr. Stylianos Bletsas, Deputy Regional Governor for Sustainable Development, Energy, Spatial Planning and Environment of Western Greece; Professor Emeritus Georgios Stefanidis of the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Patras; and Professor Spyros Syrmakesis of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of the Peloponnese.
· Presentation of the Path4PDE project by Dr. Maria Makri (Region of Western Greece)
· Assessment of the Current Situation (Baseline Report) by Dr. Barbara Syngouni (Region of Western Greece)
· Presentation of questionnaire results by Dr. Marina Kouta (University of Patras)
The most important part of the event was the discussion with participating stakeholders, where needs, challenges, and priorities were recorded. The meeting highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary and cross-sector collaboration in addressing the complex challenges of climate change. The active participation of the scientific community, the Department of Environmental Technology and Transportation of the Civil Engineering Department, the Department of Physics, local stakeholders, as well as representatives from the Decentralized Administration of the Peloponnese, Western Greece and the Ionian, and from the Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency (OFYPEKA), confirmed the need for coordinated and targeted interventions.
During the discussion, significant synergy actions were identified, and it was agreed to intensify the recording of needs as a foundation for designing a comprehensive and effective action plan for the Region of Western Greece to strengthen its resilience in the future.
